I have received some rather amusing mail over the past six months that pointed out that several high profile art blogs regularly “original post” artwork that either myself or other rad blogs have posted days prior.
I didn’t think much of it when I first got mail about it, but I unfortunately started to pay attention. Contemporaneous art I don’t much mind, as if it is recent, and from a site like deviantart.com I expect lots of people to see it and thus post it. But the hilarious part is when the piece is 4 years old, and within a day of posting it, an “editor” of the featured tags posts it themselves. And when this happens regularly, well, I can’t help but laugh.
So I thought I’d say, yes I am aware of it. I have actually discussed this with Meh Gehd, and lately we have been playing the game of watching which editor will steal our posts first (read: watching how long it takes for Fer1972 to steal everyone’s artwork)
It is an utterly bizarre environment that people have invested so much of their ego into tumblr that they can’t reblog what they like, instead they steal and repost it themselves. But hey, I am not posting my own artwork, so it doesn’t affect me personally, and I’m glad that cool art is being spread and shared around, but there are some rather hilariously shallow people on tumblr, and kudos to everyone that messaged me and laughed about it.
